MMA is a hybrid sport allowing participation by all martial arts and hand-to-hand combat styles. As a result, participants must be well rounded in stand-up striking and grappling techniques. In MMA, the safety of the fighters is paramount. The introduction of rules and regulations that help ensure the safety of participants has contributed to the popularity and meteoric rise of the sport. Alpha MMA offers a safe and challenging activity for teens, men and women.
MMA came into being in the early 1990’s with the introduction of the Ultimate Fighting Challenge (UFC). Fighters of different styles and backgrounds were pitted against each other in a steel fence cage. Being an amazing and spectacular sport, MMA caught the publics eye and became very popular, very quickly.
As UFC and MMA matured, it became apparent that a more diversified set of fighting styles were required. Stand up striking (like boxing and kickboxing) and wrestling techniques and tactics became the staple skills.
Jiu-Jitsu fighters, particularly those well versed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques left a significant impression on MMA. No longer were huge sluggers aible to dominate.
The MMA of today is a far cry from its early beginnings. MMA training and competitive events have strict and well respected rules to ensure the safety of all competitors.
MMA is fun, a real challenge and can safely be practiced by children, teens, men and women. It’s not uncommon to see entire families enjoying rigorous MMA training together!
